PEARL RIVER is one of the more obscure shortlines running just uner 5 miles from Nicholson to Goodyear Mississippi from 1917 until abandonment in 2007. With little to do 101, a GE 65 Ton, was sitting in the weeds at Goodyear, Picayune MS. 11 October 2000. - mike-walker's Photos
Shortlines are those small companies which toil away on branch and secondary lines providing a vital link between customers and the big main line roads. Some have been in business since their lines were built others have come about by taking on lines the big boys deemed uneconomic. Whilst some shortlines use locos still bearing the faded colours of former owners, many have impressive, colourful paint schemes. As with most things, the shortline world is changing as a few conglomerates sweep up the independents.
